LULLABY

“be still be calm be quiet now my precious boy
don’t struggle like that or I will only love you more”

the light bulb like a giant sac
swelling for ages has
broken and spilled all over the walls
its impossibly yellow innards
all is sticky with ease
draws in and unsettles

the carpet hid fungus
mould dragging on for hours
pulling behind it mounds
making even the sink unattainable
once more then an exorcism
till now it’s worked
yet now the ritual tears on cobwebs

failing attempts at oral ingestion
of pieces of plaster white as false teeth
nothing so much as wanting to twitch
nothing transforming

which is why I keep shouting
into the entry phone handset
hear come and take me out
for a walk
