Last summer, six Polish writers teamed up with six UK partner/writers to take part in the first ever ‘Once Upon A Deadline in Translation’ event: a one-day Writers Marathon which took them all on a fact-finding, fiction-spinning odyssey to a variety of locations in Southend, including a train ride to the end of the world’s longest pleasure pier, plus lunch in the cockle sheds in neighbouring Leigh-on-Sea.

The result? This remarkable collection of stories composed on the hoof, then read out later that day to rapturous applause at the live ‘Read Off’ in the University of Essex’s Clifftown Studios.
